Originally from Chicago, Laura Hawbaker has lived in Prague, Poland, Hawaii, and now New Orleans, where she works as an artist and writer. She teaches children from immigrant and refugee families with InspireNOLA Charter Schools.
Laura has written for The Chicago Tribune, The Chicago Sun-Times, Time Out Magazine, and Newcity Magazine, as well as numerous literary publications. Laura earned her Masters from the University of Illinois at Chicago and her Bachelors from Columbia College. She is a winner in the Traditional Fiction category of the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) Crown Awards.
In 2012, Laura was awarded a Fulbright Grant from the U.S. Department of State. She displays her art at the Frenchmen Art Market and Pirate's Alley in the French Quarter of New Orleans.
